Women's tennis team adds two more wins
Date 4/8/2004 12:00 AM | Topic: SportsThe Norse went two for two in its meets last weekend in Rochester, Minn. Luther took down St. Olaf, 9-0, on April 2 and the College of St. Catherine, 6-3, on April 3.
In singles play against St. Olaf, Luther's number one player, Miriam Blom-Skrade ('04), stomped Beth Erie, 6-2, 6-1.
Lindsay Hagen ('04) followed the trend and crushed St. Olaf's Kristen Buchta, 6-1, 6-3.
Jacie Haroldson ('05) pummeled Sarah Play of St. Olaf in a 6-0, 6-1 match, while Annalise Conaway ('07) slammed St. Olaf's Lauren Benson, 6-1, 6-4.
Tasha Allemang ('06) beat St. Olaf's Jamie Brau 6-3, 6-3 at number five singles and Tara Huinker ('06) rounded out Luther's singles wins with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Emily Eggert.
In doubles action, Blom-Skrade and Hagen teamed up against St. Olaf's Erie and Buchta to win an 8-6 match.
Huinker and Kirsten Madsen ('06) defeated Eggert and Misaki Kodama of St. Olaf, 8-3.
Haroldson and Allemang finished off the day with an 8-2 win over St. Olaf's Brau and Joric Steffen.
The following day, the Norse handed St. Catherine's a 6-3 pounding.
In singles action, Blom-Skrade beat Briggs Rolfsrud 6-4, 6-2, in the number one singles match-up.
Madsen also took down St. Cate's Linsey Miller in back to back 6-1 sets for another Luther victory. Allemang polished off the singles round, defeating Jessica Jones of St. Cate's, 6-3, 6-4.
Luther also took home every win in the doubles category. Blom-Skrade and Hagen defeated Amy Willhite and Linsey Miller by a score of 8-5.
Huinker and Madsen paired up against St. Catherine's number two doubles squad of Deidre Lindstrom and Shelly Bebler, beating them 8-5.
Finally, Haroldson and Allemang took down St. Cate's Rolfsrud and Jones, 8-4.
The Luther women's tennis team now holds a 14-5 overall record.
The team's next stop will be the Midwest Invitational Tournament in Madison, Wis. on April 9-10.
Following that tournament, the Norse will host the 37th annual Luther Invite on April 16-17.
