"SO," new photography display in Union Gallery
"SO," new photography display in Union Gallery
Date 5/3/2001 12:00 AM | Topic: Arts & Culture"SO," an exhibit of photographs by award-winning photographer Thomas R. Payne, is currently on display at Luther College Centennial Union Gallery April 20-May 20.
The exhibit is open to the public with no charge for admission. Payne's photographs and artistic images have been displayed in more than 30 one-person and group exhibits in seven states. He created an interactive CD-ROM display featured at the Dallas Video Festival held in 1997 at the Dallas Museum of Art.
He is the recipient of several awards honors and scholarships, including the Communication Arts magazine 1998 Communication Arts Award of Excellence.
Payne is associate professor of art and chair of the art department at Wartburg College. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma and a master of fine arts degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
A member of the Wartburg College faculty since 1993, Payne teaches courses in art history, photography, computer art and communication design. He has also developed courses and facilities for computer graphics and digital imagining.
He has taught at The University of Oklahoma School of Art, the State University of New York at Buffalo and Empire State College in Buffalo, N.Y. He supervised production, acquisition, display and maintenance of photographic collections of the Buffalo Historical Society 1982-87.
From 1987-92, Payne was a commercial photographer and owner of Thomas Payne Photography, a studio specializing in architectural and advertising photography. His commercial photographs have been published in numerous books, brochures, annual reports and advertising materials.
